V & K’s wedding at North Mymms Park was exactly the kind of day I love photographing, relaxed, full of energy, and completely centred around having a good time.
As a North Mymms wedding photographer, I loved how naturally the day came together. V & K are a young, outgoing couple who didn’t take themselves too seriously. They were surrounded by friends who were just as excited to be there and who quickly became their personal hype team for the day.
There was a really easy energy between everyone, and it made photographing the wedding feel effortless.
The day itself was a proper summer wedding. The sun was out, the light was bright, and the whole place had that feeling of a day where nobody really wants to be checking the time.
V wore traditional red for the wedding before changing into white for the reception, giving the day two completely different looks. I photographed the wedding using a mix of digital and analogue film photography, particularly during the reception when I brought out a point-and-shoot film camera.
My approach to North Mymms wedding photography is relaxed and editorial. I want the photographs to feel considered without making the wedding itself feel overly produced.
With V & K, we did some posed portraits, but I kept them loose rather than rigid. I gave them some direction, but the aim was always to let them settle into the moment and photograph their personalities rather than force them into a particular look.
The rest of the day was much the same. I was looking for the natural interactions, the energy between friends and family, the little details and the moments that happened without being planned.
For me, wedding photography isn't about constantly pulling couples away from their guests. It's about being present, paying attention and knowing when to step in and when to simply let things happen.
Alongside the digital coverage, I used 35mm analogue film photography throughout the day. I particularly enjoyed using the point-and-shoot during the reception, where it became a way of capturing the more spontaneous, behind-the-scenes moments.
North Mymms Park is a great setting for this kind of photography. There are plenty of spots around the gardens, but everything is close enough that you can move around without taking the couple away from their guests for too long.
The garden area was one of my favourite places to photograph V & K. There are lots of different backgrounds and pockets of light within a relatively small area, which makes it easy to create variety while keeping the portraits relaxed.
V & K’s wedding was a good reminder of why I approach weddings the way I do. The photographs don't need to feel overly produced to feel considered.
Give people some space, keep things moving, pay attention to the light and, most importantly, let people be themselves.
Whether I'm shooting digitally or loading up a roll of 35mm film, I'm ultimately looking for the same thing, photographs that feel like the people in them.
For me, that's where the best North Mymms wedding photography usually happens.
